yapr — factorio mod
high-resolution factorio planet renderings, drop-in for the 'visible planets in space' mod. base textures are 64k×64k in-game captures, run through a gaea / blender / photoshop / python pipeline and rendered in cycles.
the goal was the most canon-accurate factorio planet on the mod portal — not stylized, not approximated, but the actual planet, rendered. a small companion mod stitches 64k×64k captures of the in-game surface into one tile, which becomes the base texture. from there it’s an automated chain through photoshop (texture asset generation), gaea (displacement / erosion), and blender (lighting, atmosphere, clouds), with some python to tie the handoffs together. rendered in cycles. light direction is matched per-planet so the rendered globe sits in the same sun as the surface.

loopable atmosphere/cloud animation is already authorable in cycles, just blocked on wube exposing motion in the visible-planets slot.
requires visible planets in space by Nauviax and its companion settings mod. available on the factorio mod portal.
